b. 1979, Slovakia
Arriving in 1983 as a refugee from Slovakia, Lucia completed her Bachelor in Fine Art at Monash University in 2000.
Lucia gathers inspiration from folklore, archetypes, mythology and mysticism while exploring history, culture, migration and fashion. Her aim is to create pieces that are macabre yet delightful, which emit an aesthetic of veneration and awe.
All animal remains used in her work are sourced ethically and conscientiously. She re-purposes remains that would otherwise perish and gives them an honorary second life.
Lucia works solely with invasive species to aid the balance of the fragile native ecosystem and to help restore and sustain Australia’s unique flora and fauna. Her work aims to spread the word on the plight of our native animals and ecosystem since colonization and is her means of giving back.
Recently, Lucia has begun working on pet memorials by special request.
